Using Medical Device Rentals To Benefit Hospitals

By Anita Ortega

Facilities all over the world provide constant care to patients with a wide range of illnesses even when their situation is adverse. When certain machines are not available, children, the elderly and individuals with chronic illnesses cannot get treated and diagnosed in the manner that they deserve. Medical device rentals are provided to make it easier for hospitals and health clinics to use the equipment they need.

Like individuals, institutions may meet periods of financial hardship. During these periods, they may not be able to purchase new machines or conduct repairs on expensive gear. This happens in the field of medicine as well as in almost every sector that you can think of. In hospitals, nurses, doctors and patients are affected.

In order to help a clinic to thrive when cash is not available, administrators must seek creative means of providing good care to patients. One alternative that has helped many is renting or leasing. This makes it possible to diagnose illnesses without sending adults or children to other institutions. It is less embarrassing for the physician and provides them with information faster.

Hospitals that practice renting when they lack essential equipment are able to serve clients better. Instead of having elderly patients and those with chronic illnesses undergo stressful journeys, they can receive the care that they need in an environment that is familiar to them. Moving into an unfamiliar place and having a new doctor look at them can be stressful to people of all ages.

By renting, a clinic can help to preserve their reputation. It erodes the trust that patients have in a particular facility when they cannot receive care when they need it. When illnesses cannot be properly diagnosed because the right testing equipment is not available, it makes a hospital appear inefficient. In fact, it reflects badly on the entire profession.

If a patient can move to another location, it provides an opportunity for another institution to offer care. However, the location that was not equipped to serve patients loses another chance to earn, even in some small way. In facilities that are being operated for profit, this is definitely a matter that must be considered seriously.

Rental organizations offer almost all the equipment that nurses and doctors could possibly require so you will always find what you need. I fact, during outbreaks of the flu and other illnesses, you can easily access essential gear to complement what you already have. You can return what you do not need when the outbreak is over.

When you get equipment on a short term basis, you can browse brands that you know. If you are familiar with a particular machine and the way that it performs, you will not have to spend any time training staff to use something different. You can get a similar product to whatever you normally use and keep your center running smoothly.

The Lagos State to Probe Maternal Deaths in Public Hospitals

The Lagos State House of Assembly says it is worried about alleged high maternal mortality rate in government hospitals supposedly caused by personnel negligence, among other factors.

The Assembly added that it had put machinery in motion towards investigating the trend, with a view to finding a lasting solution to it.

The Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Health Services, Olusegun Olulade, who said this on Friday, explained that his committee would pay scheduled and unscheduled visits to general hospitals in Lagos State in order to establish the truth of the allegation.

Olulade spoke while addressing a petition brought before the committee by Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, a non-governmental organisation with focus on supporting women’s sexual and reproductive rights.

The three-page petition by one Dr Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, said women die in public hospitals due to “poor infrastructure, ineffective health services, high user fees, and negligence by medical personnel.”

The petition named a victim, Mrs. Omowunmi Shonuga, who died with her baby after childbirth at the Rauf Aregbesola Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, Alimosho.
She allegedly died as a result of inadequate medical care.

Olulade expressed bitterness over the incident, saying, “We promise to take swift steps in ensuring that such actions by erring personnel are halted. Managements of public hospitals are urged to wake up to their duties of providing effective health care in Lagos State.”

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, told the meeting that the government was committed to providing health care in its optimal standard, particularly in the areas where high rates of maternal and child mortalities were recorded.

“The case of late Mrs. Shonuga has been brought to my attention. I assure this gathering that the affected personnel would be dealt with accordingly. I learnt that the doctor, who was supposed to be on duty, was not available when the incident occurred,” Idris added.
